Santa’s Workshop Toy Drive at Super Walmart in Sterling
Serving as a Social Action event for the Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, the goal was to ensure that the children of Loudoun County were given the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas.

On Saturday, December 17th, 2011 the Sigma Mu Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. held its inaugural Santa’s Workshop Toy Drive to benefit U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program at the Super Walmart Dulles Crossing Plaza in Sterling. Thirty members of the Chapter spent over nine hours in the chilling cold collecting toys and bikes for underprivileged children living in Loudoun County.
Serving as a Social Action event for the Sigma Mu Mu Chapter, the goal was to ensure that the children of Loudoun County were given the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas. There were great stories of giving and generosity as people donated their gifts to the toy drive. One donor had been unemployed for three months. He recently started a new job and wanted to return the blessing. He donated a shopping basket filled with toys.

As a result of the one day drive, the chapter collected over 350 toys and 11 bikes for its efforts. Sigma Mu Mu would like to thank everyone who donated and supported the toy drive. The chapter would like to also thank Super Walmart-Sterling for hosting the event and Dunkin Donuts-Sterling for providing hot chocolate and donuts for the volunteers during the toy drive. With the success of this year’s efforts, Sigma Mu Mu plans to expand its Santa’s Workshop Toy Drive through more locations and event days in 2012.
The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is organized to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
