Brambleton House Fire Causes Damage To Neighboring Homes

ASHBURN, VA — A major house fire in the Brambleton area of Ashburn Sunday afternoon displaced four residents and caused damage to two neighboring homes, according to Loudoun Fire and Rescue. The residents were evaluated for minor injuries, while no firefighters were injured.

At around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the Loudoun County emegency communications center received several calls about a fire coming from a garage of a house on Ringneck Place in Ashburn. Fire and rescue units from Brambleton, Dulles South, Kirkpatrick Farms, Moorefield, Ashburn, Leesburg and Fairfax County were dispatched to the fire.

When they arrived, firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the detached garage. The fire then spread to the house and two vehicles in the driveway, Loudoun Fire and Rescue said Monday in a news release. The homeowners were already safely outside the house when the firefighters arrived.

Once inside the house, firefighters determined the fire had spread into the attic area. Secondary crews worked to extinguish the fire in the attic as truck crews opened up the walls to see if the fire had spread. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters remained on scene to help the family gather personal items and assist the Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office in its investigation.

Four residents were transported to a local hosptial Sunday afternoon for evaluation of minor injures. After getting discharged from the hospital, the residents went to stay with friends in the area, according to Loudoun Fire and Rescue.

The Fire Marshal's Office determined the cause of the fire was accidental due to ashes from a smoker getting improperly discarded in the garage. The fire caused an estimated $736,000 in damage to the house, according to the Fire Marshal's Office. An estimated $50,000 in damage was caused to two neighboring houses from the fire.
