Briar Woods, Broad Run Football Win on the Road

On Friday, the Briar Woods Falcons and Broad Run Spartans took to the road and battled tough opponents and weather conditions to come away with important late season district wins.

Briar Woods 37, Loudoun Valley 0
Briar Woods (8-1, 7-0 in the district) shut out Loudoun Valley 37-0 in a display of offensive and defensive firepower that has come to typify the Falcons this season. Cory Colder racked up 210 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Trace McSorley chipped in with two short touchdown passes to pace the Falcons. Briar Woods piled up 392 yards of total offense, despite the wind and rain. Loudoun Valley's offense did not have similar success moving the ball. The Falcon defense limited the Vikings (3-6, 2-5) to just 58 total yards and three first downs. Linebacker Brandon Brown had 16 tackles for the Falcons, with Matt Rolin adding 11 of his own.

The Falcons face a tough Loudoun County (8-1, 6-1) team next week with the district title on the line.

Broad Run 34, Stonewall Jackson 20
Down in Manassas, Broad Run (7-2, 2-1) bounced back after last week's disappointing loss to Battlefield with a 34-20 win over Stonewall Jackson (4-5, 1-3). Derril Thomas rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and Connor Jessop ran and threw for scores to help Broad Run keep pace with Cedar Run district co-leaders Osbourn and Battlefield.

The Spartans can claim at least a share of the district championship next week against a struggling Freedom team.
