Burglars Targeting Homes of Chinese Restaurant Owners (ICYMI)

In recent months, burglars appear to have targeted the homes of residents who own Chinese restaurants, and police in the area are investigating the break-ins, according to media reports.

The burglaries have occurred in the Herndon area and the Fair Oaks section of Fairfax County, and in Ashburn. A spokeswoman for the Fairfax County police told the Washington Post that the burglars seem to know when the homeowners are out and at work.

All of the victims are of Chinese descent, according to a report on WRC-TV NBC Channel 4. A member of the Herndon Town Council told Channel 4 that the burglaries are “the most horrible form of racial profiling.”

The thieves are taking cash, jewelry and designer handbags, and passing up valuable electronics, police said.
