Applications, Transcripts, SAT or ACTs, Letters of Recommendation, College Essays, Interviews, Financial Aid, Loans, …. Preparing for and applying to college can be an absolutely daunting task. Even before the application process begins, there are extensive decisions to make – what courses to take, what major to pick, how to best position yourself by taking summer coursework or camps, what extracurricular activities to participate in, what tests to take, what practice tests to take, how and when to prepare for tests, when to visit and how to make the most of those visits. #overwhelmed

College searches and preparations made today are very different from the days that “we” as parents of high school and middle school students experienced – gone are the days of the single enormous guidebook that didn’t fit into a backpack, a post office and a handwritten letter – perhaps even typed out on a typewriter. It was painful then – but is an even more elaborate process now…

Albeit a very exciting time in the lives of students and their parents, the creativity, paperwork, key messages and management of the process can be all consuming, extremely stressful and overwhelming. Parents and teenagers may not always see eye-to-eye regarding the best college to attend, costs associated with college or even what course of action to take along the way.

Enter Hannah Serota, owner of Creative College Connections, and the easier way…. With 25 years of professional experience in college admissions and counseling, Ms. Serota founded her consulting practice in 2010 to serve families needing guidance when making plans and decisions about college. Creative College Connections provides expert leadership, structure and ultimately peace of mind and a helping hand through the entire process – from 9th – 12th grade.

“Creative College Connections was established to assist families in finding the right college fit - academically, personally and financially, says Serota, “Identifying and applying to that perfect tri-fecta in institutions is not an easy task since college admission has become so nuanced and complicated over the past three decades. We strip away some of the mystery around college admission to empower the student by providing insight and guidance thought the entire process as families in Loudoun plan their futures. The bottom line is, our role is to help navigate through the otherwise very overwhelming process in a sensible and organized way.”

Since moving to Leesburg in 2009, Serota had been meeting with families in Loudoun to help them find the perfect college fit at local meeting places including coffee shops, libraries, Wegmans, and in client homes. “The very best feeling in the world is getting a note or an email from one of my students that says ‘Thank you, I am in my first semester at my college and I love it, I never would have known about this school without you’, that is what Creative College Connections is all about – the perfect fit for your student in every possible way” explains Serota. She knew it was time to open her doors and become Creative College Connections when those letters came pouring in.

The very first brick and mortar office of Creative College Connections will celebrate it’s grand opening on Friday, June 3. The event will take place from 5 – 7PM with the official ribbon cutting taking place at 5:30PM; in historic downtown Leesburg at. 101 North King Street. Suite B. The grand opening will include members of the Leesburg Town Council as well as Mayor David S. Butler. The event will feature food, beverage and tons of great advice for those who realize there are only 226 days until the January 1 deadline for college applications in 2017! All are welcome.
