Deaths From Coronavirus Reach 1,014 In Virginia: Health Officials

Virginia reported 752 new coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the state's total number to 31,140 compared to Sunday's total of 30,388.

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Health Department on Monday reported five more coronavirus deaths and 752 new cases, bringing the state's death toll to 1,014 and the total number of cases to 31,140, according to the Virginia Department of Health. Another 47 hospitalizations were reported since Sunday, bringing the cumulative total to 3,822 hospitalizations.

As of Monday, the VDH reported 194,677 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests had been conducted in the state, representing a 14.9 percent 7-day positivity rate. Including antibody tests, the state reported 218,393 tests have been conducted in the state.

Last week, the state health department said it classifies positive PCR test results as confirmed cases. The Virginia Department of Health said antibody testing had increased in the past three weeks but make up less than nine percent of all tests.

As of Friday, the number of PCR tests performed was 176,681, while the total including PCR and antibody tests was 195,682.

On Monday, the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association reported 1,502 people with pending or confirmed coronavirus test results were currently hospitalized, down from 1,511 on Friday. A total of 4,107 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals, up from 3,805 on Friday.

On Monday, 194 COVID-19 patients were using ventilators. Among all hospital patients in Virginia, there are 629 ventilators in use of the 2,933 available ventilators in hospitals, representing 21-percent use in Virginia. No hospitals are experiencing difficulty obtaining or restocking protective gear or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

Fairfax County, the state's most populous locality with more than 1.1 million people, has the most cases with 7,843 and 284 deaths.

Virginia's top five ZIP codes for cases as of Monday are all in Northern Virginia:

  • 22191, Prince William County: 873 of 2,856 tested
  • 22193, Prince William County: 781 of 2,686 tested
  • 20110, Manassas/Prince William County: 705 of 1,692 tested
  • 22003, Fairfax County: 694 of 1,875 tested
  • 22204, Arlington County: 650 of 1,872 tested

  • Alexandria: 1,510 cases, 162 hospitalizations, 34 deaths; increase of 114 cases, three hospitalizations and two deaths from Friday
  • Arlington County: 1,638 cases, 323 hospitalizations, 77 deaths; increase of 104 cases, 17 hospitalizations and six deaths from Friday
  • Fairfax County: 7,843 cases, 1,100 hospitalizations, 284 deaths; increase of 684 cases, 65 hospitalizations and 11 deaths from Friday
  • Fairfax City: 47 cases, six hospitalizations, three deaths; increase of one case from Friday
  • Falls Church: 44 cases, nine hospitalizations, four deaths; increase of four cases from Friday
  • Loudoun County: 1,486 cases, 139 hospitalizations, 48 deaths; increase of 112 cases and five hospitalizations since Friday
  • Manassas: 628 cases, 48 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of 95 cases and one hospitalization since Friday
  • Manassas Park: 198 cases, 24hospitalizations, three deaths; increase of 22 cases and six hospitalizations since Friday
  • Prince William County: 3,759 cases, 355 hospitalizations, 70 deaths; increase of 338 cases, 22 hospitalizations and three deaths since Friday
  • Fredericksburg: 96 cases, 14 hospitalizations, no deaths; increase of 14 cases since Friday
  • Spotsylvania County: 319 cases, 30 hospitalizations, four deaths; increase of 28 cases since Friday
  • Stafford County: 484 cases, 61 hospitalizations, four deaths; increase of 42 cases since Friday
