Do-It-Yourself Home Energy Audit Workshops

The Loudoun County Department of Construction & Waste Management will host four free Do-It-Yourself workshops on how to do your own home energy audits during the month of June.  The workshops will provide residents with the knowledge to perform their own home energy audit in an effort to save money on their electric bills and reduce overall energy use in the county. All county residents are welcome and encouraged to attend any of the four workshops.

The workshops are offered as a part of the Green Home Program, an education and outreach campaign, aimed at improving energy efficiency and community-based sustainability awareness in residential communities throughout Loudoun County.

Dates and times for the meetings are set for the first two Saturdays in June:

• June 2: Purcellville Library, 220 East Main Street, Purcellville,10am-12noon

• June 2: Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Place, Potomac Falls, 2pm-4pm

• June 9: Rust Library, 380 Old Waterford Road, N.W., Leesburg, 10am-12noon

• June 9: Dulles South Multipurpose Center, 24950 Riding Center Drive, 2pm–4pm

In addition to learning how to complete their own home energy audit, residents will learn about the professional audit process, and how to apply the outcomes of a DIY audit toward making their home more energy efficient and comfortable.    Residents will also have an opportunity to share their ideas and ask a professional auditor questions.

Residents can learn more about the program online at www.locogreenhome.org, on twitter at @greenloudoun and Facebook at www.facebook.com/greenloudoun, or by calling Lewis Rauch, Director of the Department of Construction & Waste Management, at 703-777-0187.

Loudoun County initiated the development of this education & outreach campaign through funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Funding for these events is provided by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
