In an event that spans the time between Earth Day and Mother’s Day, a dozen local artists and mothers are presenting Mother Earth, an art show reflecting on how commitment to the environment informs and affects parenting, and how being a parent affects and informs commitment to living a green lifestyle. This is a conceptual multi-media show examining the archetype of Mother, both literally and figuratively in terms of our relationship to the earth. Works will explore how devotion to environmental sustainability informs and influences the artists' role as mother, and how mothers engender this same devotion in the microcosm of their families and in the world beyond the hearth.
The show will commence on Earth Day, April 22, with an opening celebration from 3-5pm, and will end on Mother’s Day with a closing ceremony. The show opening will include performance art and children’s activities. A highlight of the day will be a children’s story time featuring winners of the Newton-Marasco Foundation’s Green Book Award. The books, which were donated by the Newton-Marasco foundation, will be given as door prizes at the close of the show.
