Separated by 160 yards, two horsemen dash toward on another, lances lunging, horses huffing, hooves scurrying. The sport of jousting is alive and well today, but instead of facing off, competitors target rings along an 80-yard track.
Watch modern masters compete in the original equestrian sport at the National Jousting Championships at the historic Mt. Zion Baptist Church Grounds. Riders from Maryland, where jousting is the official state sport, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania will compete. Classes range from novice to professional. Bring you own chairs and refreshments.
Rain date, Oct. 10.
