Family Dollar Robbery Thwarted In Sterling: Police

An attempted armed robbery went awry Wednesday at a Family Dollar store in Sterling: Loudoun County Sheriffs Office.

STERLING, VA—An attempted armed robbery went awry Wednesday because of a cash register snafu in the Family Dollar store at 302 Enterprise Street, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Police are looking for a man described as light skinned, Hispanic or black, wearing a black cap with "New York" on the front, a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Around 7 p.m., according to police, an unknown man entered the store and approached the register, flashed a handgun and demanded money. But for whatever reason, the cashier was unable to open the cash register. Sufficiently spooked, the man quickly left the store.
