Governor Proclaims National Veterinary Technician Week in Virginia

In recognition of the critical role played by veterinary technicians in preserving animal health and welfare, Gov. Terence R. McAuliffe has proclaimed Oct. 11-17, 2015, as National Veterinary Technician Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The governor’s proclamation says veterinary technicians work to promote public health and nurture the bond between animals and their human companions, and use scientific knowledge and skills to protect animals and prevent or relieve animal suffering.

“National Veterinary Technician Week is an opportunity to thank veterinary technicians and honor their commitment to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care for animals,” the proclamation concludes.

The Veterinary Technology Program at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus will celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week with an Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees can tour the Animal Science Building and learn about careers caring for animals. The free event includes activities for children and refreshments.

National Veterinary Technician Week was created by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America to recognize the important work performed by veterinary technicians. As members of the veterinary healthcare team, veterinary technicians are educated in the latest medical advances and skilled at working alongside veterinarians to give pets the best medical care possible.
