Deputies were originally called to the apartments on Thursday when a family member of Grant's said he was trespassing. As deputies began to investigate how Grant entered the apartment, Grant began to intervene, according to the police report.
Authorities claimed that Grant did not cooperate with the deputy and resisted when the deputy tried to detain him. Police said they discovered that Grant had a firearm on him as they took him into custody.

"As deputies were clearing the scene, the subject began to complain that he needed his handcuffs adjusted," the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office wrote in their report. "As the deputy removed the subject from the patrol car, he fled on foot to a wooded area and a foot pursuit ensued."
Grant was still handcuffed when he escaped custody. Authorities were unable to immediately locate him. The sheriff's office believed that he changed clothes with the assistance of a friend.
A manhunt continued throughout the night as authorities searched for Grant. Virginia State Police, the Fairfax County Police Department helicopter, and a K9 Unit with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries responded to aid in the search.
Grant was finally found in a screened-in porch at a home on Midday Lane around 9:30 a.m. on Friday. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
