Home Burglaries On Recent Uptick in Loudoun County: Police

Police are warning residents of an uptick in home burglaries in which entry was made by using a garage door opener in Loudoun County.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Police are warning residents of a recent uptick in home burglaries in which entry to the residence was made by using a garage door opener found inside an unlocked vehicle, according to Loudoun County Police. Since last Friday, there have been five such incidents in which residents were home during the burglaries.

As such, police have dusted off a mantra they've had to use all too often. Namely: always lock your vehicles when they're not in use, close garage doors when you're not outside, don't leave a garage door opener inside a vehicle unless the vehicle is in a closed, locked garage and secure all exterior windows and doors. He fled upon being spotted, and was described as a light-skinned black or dark-skinned Hispanic, about 6-0 with a thin build and dark hair. He was wearing a baseball cap, khaki pants and may have been wearing gloves.
