Horse Genitals Found at Dulles: U.S. Customs

Agents found 42 pounds of horse meat concealed by two women from Mongolia who said it was for medicinal purposes. The meat was destroyed.

STERLING, VA — If you're an agriculture agent for U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Dulles International Airport, this find announced Tuesday has to be near the top of the list regarding the bizarre.

Seems two women arrived from Mongolia Jan. 29 with horse meat that included 13 pounds of horse genitals concealed inside juice boxes.

One of the women said the meat was for medicinal purposes.

In all, officials found 42 pounds of meat, as well as three liters of yak milk.

Most horse meat is prohibited from entering the U.S. for fear of foot and mouth disease, but horse meat from Mongolia is prohibited because of concerns of introducing animal diseases to U.S. livestock industries.

Neither woman was charged, and the meat was incinerated.

"Customs and Border Protection takes no pleasure in seizing and destroying travelers’ food products," said Wayne Biondi, CBP Port Director for the Area Port of Washington Dulles, in a statement. "We’re in the business of protecting America’s agriculture industries, like the livestock industry, from the potential introduction of animal diseases posed by these (not) permitted food products."

Over the years, CBP says it has found charred monkeys, cocaine inside fully cooked chickens, live sea horses and giant African land snails.
