When the first units arrived on the scene, fire and smoke emitted from the home. They used hose lines to extinguish the fire, the Loudoun County Department of Fire and Rescue said. Firefighters had to evacuate the home as the blaze spread to the second floor and the roof.

Units used ladder trucks to extinguish most of the fire from outside, which allowed firefighters to reenter the home and ensure that no embers remained. They also confirmed that the fire had not spread to neighboring homes, authorities said.
