How To Get Rid Of Christmas Trees In Ashburn Area

Take your used-up Christmas tree to one of several Loudoun County sites Dec. 26-Jan. 20 to have it recycled and turned into mulch.

LOUNDOUN COUNTY, VA — Among the many signs that the holiday season finally has run its course is the somewhat sad spectacle of spent Christmas trees, stripped of their lights and tinsel, lying outside by the curb for several days until being picked up and hauled away to points unknown. Well, here's a way to spare yourself having to look at the daily reminder that the fun's done.

Loudoun County is offering five locations for residents to drop off their Christmas trees for recycling beginning Tuesday through Jan. 20. The trees will be converted into mulch, which is available for free year-round at the Loudoun County landfill. Residents who receive curbside yard waste recycling services should contact their homeowners association, town office or recycling service provider for Christmas tree pickup dates.

Whether dropping a tree off at one of the county's collection sites or at the curb, remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, wire, stand and tree bag. Dispose of the tree bag in your regular trash. If you wish to recycle a natural wreath, remove all wires, bows, twine, lights and any other ornamentation.
