Just When You Thought it Was Safe to Go Back in the Water
Ashburn Farm Barracudas and Belmont Sharks Hit the Pool in Weekend Swimming Action
The Ashburn area pools were packed once again this weekend with people looking to escape the heat and local swim teams competing for bragging rights.
On Saturday, two local teams – the Ashburn Farm Barracudas and the Belmont Sharks – did their best to live up to their names and scare the competition right out of the water. The Barracudas came up short in their Colonial Swimming League meet against the Armfield Farm Stingrays, falling by a team score of 188-256.
The Sharks fared better in their Old Dominion Swim League matchup with the Red Rock Rockets, claiming an overall team win. The Sharks were led by standout performances from 11- to 12-year age group swimmers Thomas Lowery (First in 50 meter back, second in 50 meter fly) and Joey Scully (First in 100 meter fly, second in 50 meter free, second in 100 meter IM), who also paired with Grayson Albers and Mason Coyle to win the 100 meter medley relay.
