Local Craft Brewery in Legal Battle With Red Bull: Media Reports

A new craft brewery in Ashburn is fighting a legal battle over its name with international beverage giant Red Bull, according to local media reports.

Red Bull has filed a challenge with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office opposing the name and logo of the Old Ox Brewery, a family-owned business with 10 employees. Selling billions of energy drinks annually, Red Bull says consumers are likely to confuse the names and logos of the companies.

But Old Ox President Chris Burns told WJLA-TV Channel 7 that the logos “are at completely opposite ends of the beverage spectrum. They are liquids and that’s about as similar as they are.”
