Loudoun County Animal Shelter Waives Adoption Fees For 'Clear The Shelters' Weekend

Dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals will be available for adoption during the three-day event in Leesburg.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Loudoun County Animal Services will waive adoption fees for all available pets during its annual “Clear the Shelters” event Aug. 28-30.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter, 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg.

Available animals may include dogs, cats, kittens, rabbits, small pets and livestock.

New this year, every adopted cat and dog will go home with a three-month supply of flea and tick preventative and a large bag of pet food. Adopted dogs will also receive a three-month supply of heartworm preventative, sponsored by the Friends of Loudoun County Animal Services.

Adopters will also receive giveaways including pet supplies, treats and toys.

The shelter's standard adoption screening process will remain in place, though in a release announcing the event, the county said most adoptions can be completed the same day.

Dogs, cats and rabbits adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered and microchipped. Dogs and cats receive age-appropriate vaccinations, and adopted dogs come with a voucher for four free group training sessions.

The Loudoun event is part of NBCUniversal Local's nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative, now in its 12th year. The campaign has helped more than 1 million pets find homes, according to the county.
