Loudoun County health officials encourage residents to observe National Immunization Awareness Month in August by scheduling appointments for routine vaccinations. The annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines at each stage of life, from infancy into adulthood. Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend says people have the power to protect themselves and their families against serious diseases such as whooping cough, shingles and meningitis by getting recommended vaccinations. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people and families have postponed visits to their doctors, which also meant postponing vaccinations we all need to stay healthy,” said Goodfriend. “Now is the best time to get that checkup and catch up on your vaccinations, including the vaccine for COVID-19. Fortunately, the COVID-19 vaccine can now be given at the same time as other vaccinations and is available at many pharmacies and doctor’s offices.” More information on recommended vaccination schedules for children and adults is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Questions about vaccinations may also be directed to the Loudoun County Health Department by email. Information on how to get a COVID-19 vaccine in Loudoun County is online at loudoun.gov/covid19vaccine. # # # Stay Informed! Sign up to receive news and updates.
