LOUDOUN COUNTY,VA – Officials are appealing to the community for information after a cat was discovered with apparent gunshot wounds in his face and body.

A firearm discharge was heard around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 off Vannes Court in Hamilton. Immediately there after, the owners discovered the wounded cat, according to Loudoun County Animal Services.

A veterinarian determined the cat had pellets in the side of his face, a graze wound on his lip and several other wounds on his body that are consistent with birdshot-type shotgun ammunition.

The cat is currently in stable condition and undergoing further medical evaluation, officials said.

Under Virginia law, inuring a cat or dog can be considered a felony and may be punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
