Loudoun Hypothermia Shelter To Reopen In November

Loudoun County's Hypothermia Shelter, formerly known as the Cold Weather Shelter, will reopen in Leesburg on Nov. 15.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County Hypothermia Shelter is scheduled to reopen on Nov. 15 in Leesburg, the county announced. The shelter will be open a nightly basis until the end of March 2022.

The shelter, which supports single adults, will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. The shelter offers meals, shower facilities, and a warm place to sleep for people experiencing homelessness.

The shelter is located at 19520 Meadowview Court in Leesburg, and also provides information on community resources that can help people find food, medical assistance, and employment opportunities.

Personal bags and belongings will be limited in the shelter, Loudoun County officials said in a news release. However, some bags can be stored in a locked room for the night.

The shelter will also enforce a number of safety guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19:

  • Temperatures will be taken with a no-contact thermometer.
  • A face covering will be provided for anyone who does not have one.
  • COVID-19 symptom screening questionnaires will be administered verbally by shelter staff.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available for cleaning hands frequently.
  • Social distancing guidelines will be implemented.

Loudoun County will also provide free transportation to the shelter through the county's bus system. People who need to reach the shelter can use the route 82 bus stop across the street from the William Watters House located at 22365 Enterprise Street in Sterling. The bus arrives at 5:30 p.m. and departs at 5:45 p.m.

Another free bus to the shelter will also be available every day at the bus route 57 bus stop near the right rear side of the Shenandoah building located at 102 Heritage Way, NE in Leesburg. The bus arrives at 6:30 p.m. and departs at 6:45 p.m.

The Hypothermia Shelter is a joint effort between the county and the Loudoun Continuity of Care, a coalition of local organizations that work to provide support for people experiencing homelessness.
