Northern Virginia Tech Company Anticipates Major Layoffs In Ashburn

A major technology contractor is planning to lay off dozens of workers at a NoVA facility, according to a Virginia WARN notice.

ASHBURN, VA – Leidos has announced that it anticipates laying off dozens of employees at its Loudoun County Parkway facility.

In a notice sent to the Virginia Employment Commission’s Rapid Response/Dislocated Worker Unit and posted on the state’s Workforce Development Agency website, the company writes that it anticipates permanently laying off 84 employees at the facility located at 22001 Loudoun County Pkwy, but that the entire facility will not be closed.

The company told Patch that while the WARN notice lists 84 potential job losses, it believes the actual number of layoffs will be smaller.

Elizabeth Torres, external communications manager for Leidos, told Patch that most of the affected positions are technical and cybersecurity roles, as well as a small number of program management and operational support roles.

“We know this situation is difficult for our affected employees. Ultimately, we expect that fewer than the 84 who received WARN notices will be let go. There are opportunities elsewhere in Leidos for some while others are expected to join the company taking over the U.S. Customs and Border Protection program we lost. Colleagues who are laid off will have access to many resources that can help them through their transitions," Torres said.
