PAC, Democrats Decry Canceled Delgaudio Meeting

The cancellation of a Nov. 20 Loudoun Board of Supervisors meeting regarding allegations against Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) has county Democrats and a local political action committee crying foul. A town hall meeting has been planned instead from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the County Government Center in Leesburg.

Supervisor Shawn Williams (R-Broad Run) had intended to call on the board to strip Delgaudio of his board committee duties during a special prosecutor’s investigation of the supervisor, but he will not be able to make such a motion during the town hall meeting.

Real Advocate — a political action committee made up of former members of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee and clearly a nod to Delgaudio's private employer, Public Advocate of the United States — called the change from a board meeting to a town hall meeting, “a blatant attempt to stop Williams from making any motion for a vote of the board.”

The Washington Post first reported on allegations by a former aide of Delgaudio that she performed work for the supervisor that appeared to be for campaign fundraising and his private work with Public Advocate. Delgaudio has denied any wrongdoing.

After some critics questions whether adequate information was provided for an initial review of the complaint by an outside prosecutor, additional information was sent and is now under review. During that legal review, the Loudoun board decided to suspend its review of whether Delgaudio violated board policies. A meeting planned for Nov. 20 to discuss the matter was canceled on the advice of the county attorney, according to an email York sent out this week.
