Police: Restaurant Hit By Phone Scam

Caller claimed to be with utility company, says Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

A con artist used a phone call Monday to rip off a Sterling restaurant, according to the Loudoun County police.

The owner of the restaurant, in the 21900 block of Cascades Parkway, told police that he received a call at about 12:30 p.m. from a person claiming to be with a local utility company. The caller claimed that the restaurant owed money for unpaid bills, and that they could pay by using money cards.

The owner said he complied with the request and obtained money cards, and then provided the card information to the caller, according to a police report. The victim later determined the call was a scam.
