Cook told WUSA9 that he was recording a video for his YouTube channel when the shooting occurred in the mall's food court. "I was playing a prank and a simple practical joke, and this guy didn't take it very well," Cook said. "He didn’t say anything to me."

Cook did not describe the nature of the practical joke. The video is now considered evidence, Cook's family told WUSA9.

Cook's YouTube channel has nearly 40,000 subscribers. His most viewed video, posted two months ago, has 430,000 views.

Some of Cook's videos include "Stealing Beds From Mattress Stores Prank," "Taking People's Groceries Prank," and "Fake Vomiting on Uber Drivers."

Cook told WUSA9 that he plans to continue making videos.
