Loudoun Teen Convicted In 2 Sexual Assaults Has Sex Offender Listing Removed From Sentence
A Loudoun County judge removed a sex offender listing from the sentence of the 15-year-old convicted of sexual assaults at two high schools.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The 15-year-old boy who was convicted of two sexual assaults at Loudoun County high schools will not have to be listed on the sex offender registry, a judge ruled on Thursday, according to a report from WTOP.
At his initial sentencing earlier this month, the teen was sentenced to complete a locked residential program and supervised probation until he turned 18. The boy was originally ordered to enter the sex offender registry, as well.
At a hearing on Thursday, judge Pamela Brooks reversed course, WTOP said. The judge determined the original sentencing was too harsh, and removed the registry requirement from the teen's sentence.

"This court made an error in my initial ruling," Judge Brooks said, according to WTOP. "The court is not vain enough to think it’s perfect, but I want to get it right."

A team of attorneys representing the 15-year-old argued the sentence was too harsh, and influenced by the widespread coverage of the cases, according to a report from The Washington Post.
"If the person is young and does all the right things to make amends, don’t destroy them for the rest of their lives,” William Mann, one of the teen's attorneys said, according to the Washington Post.
In November, the teen entered a no contest plea regarding an October assault in a classroom at Broad Run High School. The teen's no contest plea in the Broad Run assault case means he did not admit guilt, but he also did not dispute the facts presented in the case.
At an October court date, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a student in a bathroom at Stone Bridge High School in May.

In a statement through their attorney, the victim's mother said they will file suit "so that no child, and no parent, will ever have to suffer what we have as a result of the misguided policies of our local government officials."
Attorneys claim administrators and officials within Loudoun County Public Schools failed to protect students by allowing the boy to transfer schools after the initial sexual assault was reported in May.
