INMED announces an expansion of its Health in Action program

Throughout Brazil, children like Ana are learning the benefits of healthy eating and lifestyles. Through INMED’s Health in Action program with the Mondelēz International Foundation, children not only have access to fresh, nutritious food from their school gardens, but also learn about nutrition and lifestyle choices that will keep them healthy for years to come.
INMED Partnerships for Children is an international nonprofit humanitarian development organization that creates pathways for disadvantaged children and families to achieve self-reliance and success in distressed communities around the world--including here in Loudoun.
Mondelēz and INMED have just launched Health in Action Phase III, which will expand the program to northern Brazil. Since the program began in 2010, Health in Action has improved the lives of 430,000 children in more than 1,000 schools in 3 states of Brazil.

The concept behind Health in Action is simple: Increasing access to fresh food via school meals and home gardens, participatory education and daily physical activity at school builds a firm foundation for healthy living throughout adulthood.
During class, students are taught how to maintain good health through both their diet and exercise. The lessons extend far beyond the classroom by empowering children to become change agents in their families and communities. Many children, including Ana, have planted home gardens that not only benefit their families, but also are providing fresh produce to their neighbors. Ana’s garden is doing so well that her mother is selling the excess harvests to earn extra money for the family and plant an even larger garden to start an agribusiness.
