Stone Bridge Girls Out of Reach in Basketball Tournament

A common saying during the holiday season is: It's better to give then receive. Perhaps keeping with that theme, the Stone Bridge varsity girls basketball team provided their opponents and fans with a display of dominating scoring and defense, as the team went undefeated in the 4th annual Honda of Dulles Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The Bulldogs (8-1) opened the tournament with a 57-29 win over Briar Woods (3-5), and followed that victory with a 50-28 win over Broad Run (4-7). Stone Bridge relied on balanced scoring from several players, with Ashley Herndon, Kayla Sleece, Megan Della Penna, Emily Brown and Nikki Prince all scoring double-digits in at least one of the tournament games.

Broad Run and Briar Woods closed out the tournament Thursday night in grand fashion, with the Spartans winning an exciting 48-46 game in Brambleton. Even with the loss, Briar Woods' Logan Ballard was honored with her second MVP award of the tournament for her efforts against both Stone Bridge and Broad Run.
