Two Rivers - The Potomac and The Cooum

East Coast to East Coast: Driving on George Washington Memorial parkway, the meandering majestic Potomac River along-side the road often times reminds me The Adyar River or Cooum River in Chennai that flows into Bay of Bengal. Stopping your car on GW Parkway occasionally for those scenic views of the beautiful Potomac evokes a pleasant feeling which in some strange retrospective way brings back the slight wonder the Adyar River at times invoked in me as a young boy during those high school days train commute.

While the Potomac river has been one of the principal sources of drinking water for DC with former President Bill Clinton designating it as one of the American Heritage Rivers, Chennai's main river has often been termed "A smelling flood" though. In spite of the efforts by local Govt. there that has been attempting to clean up Chennai's main river apart from tackling numerous other pressing water related problems, it appears that a few days of torrential rains cleaned up the river for a brief period. Laudable is Chennai city's dream project to clean up Cooum river on or before 2020.
