Here's your first look at the NFL season for the Washington Football Team in 2021.
17 games are on the NFL schedule for the first time in 2021. Here are some things to know as Washington preps for the longest season ever.

ASHBURN, VA — Professional football returns after the Labor Day weekend, with all 32 National Football League teams kicking off play this week.
The Washington Football Team will open its 2021 campaign against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 12. The game will be held at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, at 1 p.m.
Other highlights for the Washington Football Team include a Week 6 matchup at home against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, and a Week 10 game against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game against the Buccaneers will be a rematch of last season's wild card playoff game that saw the Buccaneers beat the Washington Football Team 31-23.

When the Washington Football Team takes the field on Sunday, fans will be able to return to FedEx Field for the first time in more than a year. Vaccinations are not required for fans to attend games, but all attendees will have to wear masks indoors at FedEx Field, regardless of their vaccination status.
In May, Washington Football Team President Jason Wright emphasized safety for returning fans to the stadium. "The safety of our fans, employees, coaching staff and players is our top priority," Wright said in a news release. "We take our responsibility to create a safe return for fans very seriously, and we do so with the confidence and collaboration of our state and local public health authorities."

On Sunday, fans will return to FedEx Field for the first time since the Washington Football Team adopted their current name. Though fans will return, Native American-themed headdresses will not be permitted, the franchise said last month.
"We are excited to welcome everyone back wearing their Burgundy & Gold," the team wrote in a news release in August. "However, Native American inspired ceremonial headdresses or face paint may no longer be worn into the stadium."
The Washington Football Team is still in the midst of a rebranding process that will lead to a new name, logo and mascot. However, the new brand will not have any connection to Native American imagery, Wright said.
"Moving forward with no ties to Native American imagery is the right path," Wright said on the team's website.
The franchise noted the rebranding process allowed it to learn more about research that revealed the psychological impact of Native American mascots on Native American youth.

The 2021 season will be the longest in the history of the NFL, as the league approved an expansion from 16 to 17 games earlier in the offseason. In the new scheduling format, all American Football Conference teams will host an additional game in odd years, and all National Football Conference teams get an extra home game in even years.
The NFL will kick off the 2021 regular season on Thursday, Sept. 9, when the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Dallas Cowboys.
Three games are scheduled for Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 25 this year. The Chicago Bears will visit the Detroit Lions before the Las Vegas Raiders play at the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills go to New Orleans to play the Saints in the holiday nightcap.
With the regular season extended an extra week, the traditional Week 17 division rivalry matchups will be held in Week 18.
