Wild Police Chase Ends At Fire Hydrant In Sterling

A driver led police on a wild chase around 9:35 a.m. Sunday before finally losing control and slamming into a fire hydrant in Sterling: LCSO

STERLING, VA — A driver led police on a wild chase around 9:35 a.m. Sunday before finally losing control and slamming into a fire hydrant in the area of Argonne Avenue, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Craig A. Mittong, 36, of Warrenton, was injured and taken to a local hopsital before being taken to jail and charged with eluding and driving on a suspended license He's being held without bond.

Early Sunday morning after the sun came up, a deputy saw a driver traveling erratically in the area of eastbound Route 7. The driver then turned onto Sterling Boulevard and sped up, after which the officer tried to pull him over. But the driver didn't stop, continued to speed and blew past a traffic signal in the area of Church Road. Shortly thereafter, though, he hit the fire hydrant.
