Young Woman Dies After Using 'Molly': Media Reports

Sterling resident was taken to MedStar Hospital at midnight from concert in the District.

A young woman from Sterling died Thursday morning after taking the drug “Molly” at a concert in Washington, D.C., according to media reports.

Victoria Callahan, 19, was pronounced dead at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center after being transported from Echostage, a concert venue in Northeast Washington, at around midnight, WTTG-TV Channel 5 reported.

A MedStar spokeswoman confirmed that Callahan was brought to the hospital, and said that she died at 5 a.m. The D.C. medical examiner must determine the cause of death, the spokeswoman said.

Molly, or MDMA, is a synthetic and psychoactive drug, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Also known as ecstasy, it produces feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth and empathy toward others, and distortions in sensory and time perception.
