(audacy.com) — Local Hokies fans can enter an online contest this weekend to win tickets for the Virginia Tech–Georgia Tech game at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg on October 17. Entries are accepted October 3–4, with winners drawn October 5, but you'll need an email address, a smartphone, and a mobile ticketing app account to actually use the digital tickets.
2. Boise receives highest grade for drinking water purity among college towns (arbiteronline.com) — Blacksburg joins Boise, Albuquerque, and Durham as the only college towns earning an A+ for drinking water purity in a new Culligan Water survey. The ranking, based on low levels of lead and "forever chemicals," suggests local tap water stacks up very well nationally, offering reassurance to residents and students about what's coming out of their faucets.
3. Blacksburg man sentenced nine years for possessing firearm as convicted felon (wfxrtv.com) — A Blacksburg resident has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison after Pulaski police found two firearms and suspected drugs during a 2025 traffic stop. Prosecutors say officers discovered a handgun hidden in his clothing and an assault-style pistol with a suppressor in the vehicle, leading to his conviction for possessing a firearm as a felon.
4. Pitt coach puts top-25 voters on blast to 'wake their ass up' after huge win over Virginia Tech (nypost.com) — A nail-biting Virginia Tech home game in Blacksburg ended with Pitt edging the Hokies 35–33 after a controversial missed field goal at Lane Stadium. Pitt's coach used the upset win to demand more respect from Top 25 voters, while Tech falls to 4–1 despite piling up big yardage.
