BURKE, VA — When a Feb. 9 fire in Burke affected three families, three different fundraisers were started to support the families.

The fire at a townhouse in the 5400 block of Crossrail Drive destroyed three homes, according to one of the GoFundMe fundraisers. There were no injuries reported by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

One of the fundraisers is dedicated to the Curtin family, who have twochildren. The fundraiser stated the family will be displaced for about a year due to the damages from the fire, smoke and water, and many of their possessions are unusable.

"We have all seen the Curtins give their heart, time, and energy to their family, friends, colleagues, students, athletes, and community," the fundraiser stated. "We are hopeful that we can now return the favor in this time of need."

Fundraiser organizer John Dowling shared Thursday that the family is thankful for the support from the community.

Another fundraiser is helping a family with 3-year-old and 5-year-old children. According to the fundraiser, the family "lost everything in the fire." Fundraiser organizer wrote that the fundraiser goal was met.

A third fundraiser is helping all three affected families. The DDA Love Foundation set up the fundraiser with a goal of raising $10,000. The funds will help the families with basis necessities such as food, clothing and temporary housing.

"We are personally devastated for our neighbors, and can only imagine the sense of loss they are experiencing right now," the fundraiser stated.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue has not yet shared the cause of the fire or damage estimates.
