CASA volunteers spend most of their time gathering information from the professionals on an abuse and neglect case to report to court. Some of the most gratifying moments, though, occur when our volunteers spend time with the child they are appointed to serve.
Last week, one of our volunteers got a call from the foster mother in his case. Her young foster child was scared of escalators and wanted to learn how to use them – she wondered if the CASA volunteer might assist. Our volunteer took the child to a local mall and showed him how to ride an escalator. Up and down they went, over and over, until the child overcame his fears and replaced them with pride in his mastery of a new skill.
