Fairfax CASA Wins the Golden Gavel

The Fairfax Law Assocation's Golden Gavel Awards recognized Fairfax CASA with one of its very first Golden Gavel Awards.

Fairfax CASA was the proud recipient of one of the first Golden Gavel Awards, presented by the Fairfax Law Foundation's Society of Fellows in the nonprofit category at the Golden Gavel Awards dinner Thursday Sept. 20. The foundation, a philanthropic offshoot of the Fairfax Bar Association, recognized Fairfax CASA for its longstanding advocacy work with abused and neglected children who are under the Juvenile Court's protection.

Executive Director Lisa Banks was honored to accept the award on behalf of Fairfax CASA, noting that the organization is proud to work beside the legal community to protect the rights and best interests of our community's vulnerable children. In addition to other duties outlined by state law, CASA volunteers are charged with assisting each child's attorney, or Guardian ad litem, as he or she represents that child in Court.

Learn more about Fairfax CASA and the dedicated advocacy of CASA volunteers by attending the next information session: Saturday, Oct. 20, 11:00 a.m., at the Burke Centre Library.  For more information, email volunteer@casafairfax.org or call 702-273-3526.
