Fairfax County General Registrar Visits Greenspring

Fairfax County General Registrar Cameron Quinn was a guest on 'Village in Motion', Greenspring's daily live television show.

With the November 6 election just around the corner, Quinn shared with viewers information on voter registration, in-person absentee voting, and voter identification, among other topics.  Greenspring, which has been a precinct since 2003, has nearly 1900 registered voters.

Quinn reminded viewers of the upcoming voter registration deadline of October 15, stating that all updates and changes must be made to one's registration no later than that date.  She encouraged viewers to visit the State Board of Elections website to confirm voter registration.

Quinn also mentioned the deadline of October 30, which is the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail; the application for an absentee ballot can be found online.  If one is determined eligible for mail-in absentee voting, they will receive a ballot which must be returned by 7 p.m. on November 6. 

Additionally, Virginia does not have early voting, but rather offers in-person absentee voting.  November 3 is the deadline for applications to vote in-person absentee.  Quinn mentioned that the Fairfax County Government Center will be open for in-person absentee voting Friday, September 21 through Saturday, November 3.  Additionally, there will be seven satellite locations available for in-person absentee voting from October 17 until November 3. There are a number of reasons you may be considered eligible to vote absentee; please visit the Fairfax County website for more information.

With recent changes to Virginia's voter identification laws, Quinn also shared examples of acceptable forms of identification for voting, including, but not limited to, a driver's license, a military ID, a passport, a Virginia voter registration card, and a Medicare card.  Additional acceptable forms of identification can be found online.

The polling place at Greenspring will be open from 6:00 am-7:00 pm on November 6; historically, the precinct has produced the highest voter turnout across the Commonwealth.
