Burke Historical Society meeting

Please join us at the Silas Burke House (the lovely white home at the top of the hill, with the historic marker at the driveway), built ca. 1824.  John Browne will speak about the Fairfax County Cemetery Preservation Association, the Ben and Mary Fairfax cemetery, and the FCCPA’s work in restoring this important site.

The Burke Historical Society is a group of local enthusiasts interested in exploring and preserving the history of Burke.  We are seeking new members who share this interest.  No commitment is needed; all are welcome!

The Fairfax County Cemetery Preservation Association first took shape in June 2008, when a group of concerned citizens organized to refurbish and protect the vandalized Marshall family cemetery in Burke.  Since incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the FCCPA’s mission is to identify, document, preserve, protect, maintain and advocate for cemeteries in our county that are threatened by development, vandalism or neglect, as well as to educate the community about the historical importance of cemeteries and how to survey and preserve cemeteries.  John Browne is a member of both the FCCPA and the BHS who was particularly involved in the restoration of the Ben and Mary Fairfax cemetery in Kings Park West.
