Fatal 2-Vehicle Crash On I-495 Occurred Before Winter Storm: VSP

Virginia State Police say that a fatal two-vehicle crash on I-495 in Fairfax County occurred before the winter storm's arrival on Saturday.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 495 at Backlick Road in Fairfax County on Saturday night.

Just before 8:30 p.m., the driver of a sedan traveling southbound from Interstate 395 to northbound I-495 lost control of their vehicle, according to police. The vehicle slid off the right side of the road and crashed into a jersey wall before striking a tractor-trailer that had stopped.

Saturday's crash occurred before the winter storm that blanketed the region with more than 7 inches of snow. State Police are not investigating the weather as a possible cause of the crash.

The driver of the sedan was taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

As of Monday morning, VSP has not released the identity of the driver of the sedan. No information was available on whether the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured.
