I know I'm certainly late to the party on this one seeing how the movie was released a month ago as I'm writing this review. But, I finally found myself an open period of time for me to review this film, which apparently has taken the world by a somewhat powerful storm. In this film, the sequel to 2003's 'Finding Nemo' we see Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) trying to find her long lost parents YEARS after them being separated. Can Dory (Who has short-term memory loss) find her family?
As far as sequels go, I found this film to just be okay, nothing spectacular just a decent film with a few interesting elements. Such as Dory having Flashbacks while trying to remember her parents, the film takes its time to show us how a forgetful character can piece this puzzle together. The way these scenes are handle is a good way to pull at the emotional side of the audience as we root for Dory to succeed on her little quest. DeGeneres as usual seems to have a witty and cute one liner for every situation in the movie which does help this film maintain a certain level of charm.
However, despite what the film's latest ads have been saying and the previous paragraph......This film is underrated and pales a bit in comparison to the 2003 original. One mistake is that this film doesn't feel like an epic adventure compared to the first movie, it just struck me as a SAFE movie whereas the first film had more dangers involved and took more risks. There were more life threatening moments in 'Nemo' that made the reunion between father and son earned. That sense of danger made that film more gripping, suspenseful, and interesting, this film doesn't have that many intense scenes and is ironically rated PG while the first film had more scary scenes and somehow managed to earn a mere G rating.

The comedic elements of this family adventure are pretty strong because of just how outrageous and ridiculous they are, this is one of the few elements that's an improvement over the original. Although the climax is funnier in the original film was a bit closer to being realistic, this film decides for a farce in the climax and it works. It took the idea of two animals interacting with a typically human task and exploits it to a hilariously over the top delivery.
Overall 'Finding Dory' does have a few things to offer but if this movie had come out 2004 or 2006 then maybe it would've been better. The first one had such a perfect delivery that this film feels like a decent film that comes off as a bit of a cash grab. If they were REALLY serious about making this movie 13 years after the original, they should've reworked the script through a few more drafts. I am glad that I saw it, but I don't think I'll be diving back into these waters again.
