Foxcraft Design Group Wins Five Awards for Remodeling Project in Great Falls, VA
Falls Church, VA – Foxcraft Design Group, Inc., one of the most creative, experienced and respected design-build firms in the Virginia-DC-Maryland region has won five awards – local, regional and national – for excellence in a major bathroom renovation it completed at a home in Great Falls, VA.
The winning project was a complete redesign and remodel of the master bath and walk-in closets to become a master bath and dressing room inside a 1970s-era home. The clients are a couple with grown children. At the national level, Foxcraft won an award from Professional Remodeler Magazine, a Chrysalis Award from Qualified Remodeler Magazine and a National CotY Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). All of the national awards were part of the category of bathroom projects greater than $60,000. NARI also honored Foxcraft with a first-place award for the same project in the Southeast Region, and a merit award from the Metro chapter (Washington, D.C. region) in the category of Contractor of the Year.
“This is really a strong vote of confidence in the entire team at Foxcraft,” said Jim Lynch at Foxcraft who designed and managed the project. “Clients really like working with us not only for our creativity and our design and remodeling skills but because they appreciate our highly professional, responsive and friendly team members. This project brought together some very unique workmanship, creativity and materials.”
Inspiration was drawn from the home’s Asian-themed exterior set on a moderately wooded landscape. Foxcraft worked within the existing bounds of the house and created a bathroom using some of the most advanced techniques and materials. Foxcraft installed shōji screens to allow natural light from a skylight and window to stream into every corner of the spaces. A shōji screen is a door, window or room divider consisting of translucent paper over a frame of wood which holds together a lattice of wood or bamboo. Traditional shoji screen rice paper was replaced with modern easy-to-maintain fabric. Shōji screens are designed to slide open and, in this project, eliminated the need for swinging doors. When open, they create a large space with the island and bench. When closed, they create a serene atmosphere. Other features of the project included motion-sensor activated lighting for greater safety, heated floors for more comfort, a Toto toilet and washlet to extend the potential for aging in place, and a single-slope curbless shower floor with a linear drain.
