Furnace Fire in Burke Brought Under Control Quickly
Saturday morning fire was kept in the room where it started.
Approximately 30 firefighters responded around 8 Saturday morning to a furnace fire in the 5800 block of Parakeet Drive in Burke, near Colonel Silas Burke Park.
The furnace fire spread to the walls of the house, but was kept confined to the room of origin, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Robert Konczal said. Firefighters extinguished the fire, controlled the utilities and then ventilated the house, as there was smoke throughout the building.
Konczal estimated that the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, though firefighters were at the scene closer to an hour in order to search for hidden hot spots in the ceiling and the adjacent wall.
