Input Sought for Water Supply Plan

Fairfax County seeks public input on the Northern Virginia Regional Water Supply Plan that will be submitted to the state.

Until Feb. 28, written comments can be submitted by email to the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors, or they may be mailed to the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 533, Fairfax, VA 22035.

The public also may offer comments to the Board of Supervisors at a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 4 p.m. in the Board Auditorium of the Government Center. To sign up to speak, register online or call 703-324-3151, TTY 711, before noon on Feb. 28.

By state law, the regional water supply plan must be updated every five years, and it includes an assessment of water resources and use during the next 30 to 50 years. The law is intended to:

• Ensure adequate and safe drinking wate.
• Encourage, promote and protect all other beneficial uses of the state’s water resources.
• Encourage, promote and develop incentives for alternative water sources.

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission, along with the participating local governments and water authorities, coordinated the development of the plan. The commission will submit the plan to the state.
