organization to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.

Members of the local Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter will be gently cleaning, recording

and mapping the graves in this local, historic cemetery. We need to acknowledge our gratitude

to Boy Scout 1835 for the work the boys and young men will be doing to place a sign and bench

at the cemetery, and for the hard work they will do to remove the large branches and overgrowth

from the area. I would also like to thank Pastor Lane and his church community for the

opportunity to assist in preserving this important place in our local history.

Our chapter, which was organized in 1982, will be carrying out one of the important

missions of the National Society here on the local level. We’re excited to demonstrate the

vibrancy and contributions of today’s DAR by serving our local community as Daughters have

been doing throughout the nation for 125 years.

All women who can document descent from a Revolutionary War Patriot are encouraged

to consider the many benefits of joining. We are eager to welcome new members to our chapter,

and we have volunteers available to help them research and complete their genealogy in order to

apply for membership. Prospective members are encouraged to visit www.DAR.org to learn

more and to contact the local chapter at judithkorfonta@gmail.com, to obtain more information

about membership eligibility.
