Logan Review

A review on the latest superhero movie Logan

Logan Review

Hugh Jackman's last ride as the iconic X-men Wolverine (Logan) goes out in a blaze of glory, this R rated superhero film is chock full of great writing, fantastic character development, and gives us a dark, gritty story that's pretty disturbing. Years after the X-men were virtually wiped out, Wolverine, (Jackman) is an alcoholic limo driver and tries to take care of a mentally ruined Professor X. Wolverine comes across a girl and her surrogate mother, a nurse that warns Wolverine of the danger they are in. After the nurse is killed, Wolverine comes across the girl and tries to deliver her to safety, but can he do this with evil militants on his tail?

The best elements of this movie are the scenes where Wolverine has to become a father figure to this girl, who also is a mutant. There are a few scenes where Logan opens up to his more human side, letting his emotions show. Revealing that underneath his tough exterior is a lonely depressed man who has seen all of his friends and loved ones die. He uses this anger to try and appear more together mentally then he really is, and these scenes help to evolve him a bit more and allow him to become more complex.

Many child actors suffer from being kids in a movie, they usually don't know how to act properly, but in this movie, the casting director chose a preteen girl that has amazing range for someone so young. The girl in the movie (Laura) turns out to be a mutant with the same powers as Logan, (advanced healing and claws in her knuckles) and she's very violent, killing off many of her opponents in the process. But through her minimal dialogue, she still develops a badass persona and can still, (Like Logan) show her more emotional side.

As far as the rating is concerned, this is far more brutal than last year's 'Deadpool' the gore is more gruesome and realistic, it's clear that the filmmakers wanted to make this movie as intense as possible. But the fact that it is gruesome and Logan seems to be losing his strength in all this makes the danger all the more real. Showing the while Logan is still strong as a person, his body is physically falling apart. That just adds to the suspense of whether he'll be able to help get Laura to safety and save the day. This film is a great superhero movie and should be regarded as a great film as well. It has powerful emotional moments, all the actors do a fantastic job, and it's got enough bloody action to make the sick side of our minds happy. ENJOY!
