Man Charged After Fatal West Springfield Shooting: Police

Police believe the suspect and victim in Saturday's shooting were acquaintances.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA — A man is facing charges after a fatal shooting Saturday evening in West Springfield, according to Fairfax County Police.

The shooting happened around 5:11 p.m. in the 8500 block of Bauer Drive. Police found a man with upper body gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. The suspect, Carlington Fitz Auther Campbell, 33, of Springfield, identified himself to officers and said he was involved in the shooting.

Detectives determined Campbell and the victim were acquaintances who had an ongoing dispute. The victim had arrived at Campbell’s residence and was later shot outside his door. After a review of evidence so far and consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, police charged Campbell with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
