Mutts Matter: Happy Little Stuart
Meet Stuart, a sweet little schnauzer mix who will steal your heart.
By Mutts Matter Rescue
Hey there! My name is Stuart and Iām a happy-go-lucky little schnauzer mix who has a sweet disposition and a welcoming nature with everyone. Iām between 5 and 7 years old, and Iām just a little guy, weighing in at only 15 pounds. Iām a resilient pup who hasnāt always been treated well, but Iāve still got a big heart and am excited to find my new family to love.Ā
I was found tied up to a bench in a Baltimore city park. Yes, itās sad that I was abandoned without any concern for my safety, but itās not like my former owners had taken very good care of me anyway. I was frail, malnourished, and my coat was very thin from a poor diet when I came into the rescue. My back legs were weakened from being crated for long periods of time and not getting proper exercise. I could have easily been overlooked at the shelter, but thankfully Mutts Matter stepped in to save me.Ā
My life has come full circle since being rescued. I was bathed and groomed to clean my matted coat, had my teeth cleaned, and was put on glucosamine supplements to help strengthen and support my joints. My back legs are still a little weak, but with daily walks and a proper diet, Iām getting stronger every day.Ā
Iām currently living with my foster parents, Katy and Ali, and my foster sister, Callie, who is an MMR pup just like me. When I first got here, I was pretty wobbly and had trouble getting up their three front steps, but after only two weeks, Iām able to get myself up and down those steps multiple times a day. I love trotting around my new back yard and the walks Iāve been going on every day are great!Ā
My foster mom thinks my turnaround is remarkable, and sees me gaining confidence and endurance every day. Initially, I was a hesitant eater too, but now that I know Iāll get regular meals and tasty chicken meatball treats, I dig right in. Iāve learned a lot about how things work from watching Callie, and weāve had a good time hanging out together. Iām very social, and have even made friends with some of the local dogs in my neighborhood.Ā
My foster parents describe me as calm and affectionate, with lots of curiosity and enthusiasm. My body is still playing catch-up with my renewed spirit and energy, but I love going on walks to build up my legs and smell all the smells. I get so excited when I hear the leash come out that I do a little happy dance, which always seems to make my foster mom laugh.Ā
I also love to be petted and share affection with all the new people I meet. When my foster mom stops petting me, sometimes Iāll nudge her hand just a little just to let her know that Iām expecting the deluxe package. If sheās busy, Iāll go see if my foster dad can do the job. Iām making up for a lot of lost petting time here!Ā
Mutts Matter thinks I have a temperament that would work well with most families. Iād make a great companion pup and can do well with another small dog in the house, or older kids who know how to properly handle a little guy like me. Iād be great with a retired couple, or a parent who works from home and has time to give me the love and attention Iāve missed out on all these years.Ā
My new family will need to have a little patience as I build back my strength and endurance, and learn the rules of home life. Iām still working on potty training, and do best with I have a set schedule. My new family must commit to daily walks and a good diet. Iāll need to continue my daily glucosamine supplements, and will require professionally grooming every so often to keep my coat neat and tidy.Ā
