Why do people volunteer? For many reasons, I am sure. Here at Fairfax CASA I have had the chance to talk with hundreds of CASA volunteers about their cases and ask them what inspires them to do this challenging work. Without question, a desire to serve the greater good is their number one driving force. Most volunteers tell me they feel fortunate in their own lives and want to give vulnerable children the same chance for success in life.
Our volunteers demonstrate passion and determination as they fight for the rights of the children they serve. In ways large and small, they achieve their goal of improving a child’s chances for a better life – and they deserve to be celebrated for their success.
Fortunately, springtime is a prime time to celebrate!

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about child abuse across the country. This year, the season also marks a special anniversary for Fairfax CASA – our 25th year of service to the community. Over the past 25 years, 1,636 CASA volunteers have helped to better the prospects for more than 6,000 abused and neglected children in Fairfax County.
Please help us celebrate the accomplishments of our amazing volunteers and raise awareness about child abuse and neglect by participating in the May 3 Run for the Children 8K Race & 3K Run/Walk. Test your time in the 8K, form a team and walk the 3K, or volunteer the day-of to marshal the race. Whatever your reasons, I know you, too, will experience the pride and the satisfaction of giving back for the greater good.
