The Percussion Ensemble plays a vital role in the overall development of our percussion majors. Ensemble literature varies from trios and quartets to large-scale, conducted works. The group has commissioned and premiered music from Jonathan Newman, Peter Erskine and Jesse Guessford, as well as presenting major works by Steve Reich, Edgar Vareze, Christopher Rouse, John Cage, Lou Harrison, Michael Burritt, and Bob Becker, among many others. New and experimental literature round out the programming each season. Along with two major performances each academic year, the percussion ensemble performs a number of other events, including an annual collaboration between the group and Mason student composers, which results in a workshop performance in the fall semester
